NSW: Records damaged after land titles office flooded
A NSW government office in Sydney should be up and running by this morning after salvageexperts worked through the night to freeze dry hundreds of historical records damagedby a flood in the building.
Thousands of property transactions were thrown into chaos and the historical documentssoaked when up to a metre of water flooded the NSW Land Titles Office early yesterdaymorning.
The flood forced the closure of the office, halting the approximately 4,000 dealings- including property settlements and mortgages - conducted there each day.
Fire crews were notified at around 5.20am (AEST) that up to a metre of water had floodedthe basement of the Queens Square premises.
Telecommunications and other electrical equipment was damaged, forcing the building,officially known as the Land and Property Information office, to be closed off and staffsent home.
