NSW: Costa has not spoken of other ambitions: Carr

Mr Carr also welcomed Mr Costa's plans to use police whistleblower Tim Priest as an adviser.

The former detective from Cabramatta, in Sydney's west, was criticised by the government
after he claimed senior police were not doing their jobs.

Mr Priest became a regular caller on radio and was even widely touted as joining the Liberals.

The premier said he welcomed Mr Costa's plans to seek Mr Priest's advice on issues.

"The new police minister has said that using this man on programs to get kids off drugs,
programs to reach youth in distressed circumstances, would be a terrific way of using
his talents," Mr Carr said.

"Anyone who has got anything to contribute to making this a safer community ought to
be taken on board, in my view.

"Shouldn't we use people who have got something to say? I want a government that talks
to its critics ... that learns from its critics."
