NSW: Angry charity and community groups demand fee exemptions

SYDNEY, Feb 7 AAP - Angry community and charity groups today demanded the NSW governmentwaive event fees after it was revealed organisers of the Sydney Gay and Lesbian MardiGras were exempt from the usual charges.

The Sydney marathon will also be exempt from fees.

Taxpayers will foot the almost $300,000 bill for the necessary police services androad closures needed for the Mardi Gras.

Premier Bob Carr admitted the decision was unfair to smaller charity groups but saidthe move was vital to protect around 170,000 tourism jobs …
