FED: Qantas chosen for defence travel
CANBERRA, Feb 14 AAP - Qantas has been chosen to provide all national and international
travel services for Australian Defence Force (ADF) personnel under a contract worth more
than $250 million a year.
Under the five-year contract signed today, Qantas will progressively take over many
of the higher level travel management functions traditionally performed by Defence.
"Qantas will now fully manage Defence's entire domestic and international travel needs
including accommodation and bookings," Defence said in a statement.
"The new service will deliver both immediate savings through a very competitive fare
and fee structure as well as offer ongoing savings with the implementation of administrative
efficiencies, greater convenience and control to the traveller and savings in indirect
costs."
The airfare component of the contract is valued at $123 million a year, with full travel
services worth more than $250 million a year once the contract is fully implemented.
